Columbia WTP Improvements

A multi-phased engineering engagement with the goal of modernizing Columbia's 70-year-old WTP, increasing reliability and reducing maintenance needs.
IDG Water Engineering Project, Columbia Water Treatment Plant Improvements

IDG has designed multiple improvement projects at the Columbia Water Treatment Plant, a 20 MGD surface water treatment facility on the Duck River originally constructed in 1952. A major $40M multi-phase rehabilitation project addressed aging infrastructure throughout the facility, including new vertical flocculators, filter media and valve replacements, a new bulk hypochlorite system, replacement of high service and residuals pumping, a new clearwell, finished water piping improvements, new sedimentation basin sludge removal system and new plate settlers. The complexity of replacing critical components in a continuously operating plant required close coordination with CPWS staff, expedited design responses to equipment failures, and careful management of limited plant shutdown windows. IDG also serves as the owner’s engineer for the $175M, 12 mgd expansion to the plant under the Long Term Water Supply Program
